Ready To Flex With Your Blush This Spring?

Blush done right makes us looks radiant, youthful, happy, energized.

Blush done wrong can make you look like Annie from the Broadway musical.  Today, there are three textures that are often talked about: Powders, creams or liquids. Now if longevity is what matters most then consider using powders or liquids that dry down - these two tend to last longer, transfer or travel less and viewed as less forgiving but the caveat - usually they don’t look as native or as natural. Creams are the North Star and tend to give us a dewier finish.  Whichever texture you opt for, placement will be key.  Placement will make or break the look. Placement is technique and if your technique is to apply on the apples of your cheeks; use a mirror, your hands then smile. See those rounded, protruding areas of your cheeks that’s where you place the color.  Let’s talk about these 3 textures in depth!

Powders

Quick, easy, some say fool-proof but I say they can streak if your brush is too full of product. To avoid this, always tap the excess before applying. Over depositing color is likely to happen when you skip tapping your tool. Start with a little, then build up - you can always add more but hard to correct mistakes if you over-do-it. Keep glancing in the mirror for symmetry. If you see any blotchiness, dip your brush into translucent powder as a buffer then blend out…keep blending - there’s no such thing as over blended makeup.

Some of my favorite “it powder blushes” are: NARS, PatMcGrath, Tarte Amazonian Clay

Creams

Easy to apply and control. Use your index finger and middle finger dip when applying a cream formula. A little dab will do ya, apply a small dab on those apples (tap, tap, tap) blending up and out towards your temples and if you have a beauty blender nearby grab it to blend out the edges; you don’t want any harsh lines “ever” - the color should fade into the skin and with creams this is very easy to do because creams melt into our complexion.  Now the cons to using a cream is longevity, they easily fade and often need re-applying so if babysitting your makeup isn’t your vibe than cream blush might not be for you.  I always recommend to set with a loose translucent powder but use a light hand to dust just the top of the cream - otherwise you will have converted your cream into a matte with just a flick of the wrist. Go light!

Some of my favorite “it creams” are: NARS, Gucci Westman, Tower or Glossier

Liquids

Best applied before powder but after foundation. If you add a sheer translucent ontop  it can look like its coming from within.  Liquid blush has had a resurgence, she’s becoming more popular now.  Liquid is for the girls that aren’t afraid of color, like a strong concentrated look; more visible than the two formulas mentioned above.  Because it’s more color, be careful to use sparingly. Like I said before, you can look too Broadway musical or even runway if you don’t use small amounts.

Some of my favorite “it liquids” are: Saie Beauty and Selena Gomez - Rare beauty.

Well it’s been fun, running all this down to you - grab a mirror and try out some of the techniques (don’t let all these words go to waste) go on’ what you waiting on…

Get cheeky with it and have fun while doing it!!
